Pratapgad

Pratapgad is 20 km from Mahabaleshwar, 140 km from Pune & 221 km from Mumbai, is a large hill fort situated in Satara district of Maharashtra. The delighted fort was built in 1656 is known for the scuffle between one of finest warriors of their times Afzal Khan and Shivaji Maharaj.
The fort Pratapgad is divided into two sections, upper and lower. People have to walk from the parking area. Steps are easy to climb and there is very little much walking. The left side view looks like the grand canyon of USA. While in transit to the upper fortress, there are little shops offering eatables, Books and different things.
Lord Hanuman temple is there. There are two temples at the, one of them is for Lord Shiva called Sri Kedareshwar Mandir and another one is Sri Bhavani Mata temple both are situated on top of the fort. The Pratapgad Fort has ponds, chambers, and long dark walkways. Some of these lead to trick doors that open to a 100-meter fall. It is one of the endpoints of Mahabaleshwar where a lot of travelers visit every year. It is a must see place for history lovers and photojournalists because of its plentiful scenic beauty as well as historical background. Today this fort has become a well-known tourist spot near Mahabaleshwar as it is still in properly good condition. There is a motorable road up to the entry point of the fort. Visitors have to discover the fort by walk (1 km).

No entry fee at Pratapgad fort. The tourist guide is available and guide fees are around 1000 RS
